UPBeat: Slowing Fast Fashion
Thrifting is stylish antidote to over consumption Fast fashion, according to the dictionary, is “the rapid production of inexpensive, low-quality clothing that often mimics popular styles.” Think about Shein, TEMU, Tiktok Shop — any way to get cheap clothes quickly. How many of those clothing items do we wear every day? And how many have we thrown away because they fell apart or went out of style? Unsurprisingly, 92-million tons of clothing is thrown away every year with 11.3

Project: Create a Poster and Flier
Poster: Before: After: Flier: Before: After: For this project, we were tasked with creating a poster and flier for the same event, but the poster and flier could not be the exact same. I chose to create a poster and flier for a Donna and the Dynamos concert from the movie "Mamma Mia." After showing my first projects in class, I realized that I did not like the turquoise outlining that was behind the lettering and that I wanted to change the display font to something more fitt

Project: Create a Menu
Before: After: Within this project, we were tasked with creating a limited menu for a small local restaurant of our choice. I chose Ten West, which is a small diner in Orange, Texas. After presenting my first menu, I received feedback on consistency and spacing. So, when redoing my menu, I ensured that the spacing between menu items was smaller without them being too close together. I also made all menu items the same font size to maintain consistency.

Project: Create a Punk Flier
For this assignment, we were provided multiple magazines and tasked with utilizing cutouts from the magazines to create a punk flier. I got majority of my letters and the truck from various magazines. I drew in images that I could not find in magazines, but if I redid this, I would search more for magazines fitting the theme I was going for to remove the need for hand-drawn images.

Project: Lay Out a Magazine Spread
Before: After: For this project, we were provided images and body copy to lay out into a magazine spread. After presenting my first layout, I was given critiques on having the pages not side-by-side, the lack of columns in my copy on the first page, and the typefaces of my headline and pull quote. I took those critiques and then laid both pages out together. I switched the seal and sharks image to ensure that neither was looking off the page, and I took out a bit of the blank

Project: Design an Ad for a Client
Before: After: After (Part Two): Within this project, we were tasked with creating a static advertisement for a local event. We spoke with our client, who outlined what needed to be in the advertisement. After presenting this advertisement to the client and the class, I received feedback regarding the clip art ropes, the tilt of the bottom right photo, and the angel wings on the side. When redoing my ad, I took out the clip art to bring more focus to the photos. I moved the l

Project: Create an Advertisement
TEXT ONLY: Before: After: TEXT AND IMAGE: Before: After: For this assignment, we were tasked to create two ads, one with only text and the logo, and one with images. My sister's friend owns an online boutique, so I chose her company to create the logo for as I help with social media. For the text only, she has cards in her logo so I used the phrase "Get lucky today" to play into the casino aesthetic. When changing it, I moved today down to make it flow better and I made the l

Project: Create an Infographic
BEFORE: AFTER: Within this project, we were tasked to create an infographic depicting multiple pieces of information. I chose to utilize mental health statistics within my infographic. After discussing my project in class, I received feedback on the size of my citations, a few discrepancies in spacing and the top right panel, which has "suicide" bolded instead of the statistic like the other panels. After receiving this feedback, I shrank my citations down so they did not tak

True Crime, False Truths
When one hears the term “true crime,” they often expect a documentary or podcast. Grisly details are a given, but one thing is always expected — that the story is true. However, what happens when one watches the story unfold just to realize that it is closer to a horror movie than it is the truth? Ryan Murphy’s “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” premiered on Netflix Oct. 3, and viewers quickly realized that some of the killings were quite far from reality, despite the show’s adver

Before: After: For our first project in Desktop Publishing, we were tasked to create a logo depicting two different words. The image above was my first attempt, and I received feedback on the differing art styles of the mirror and the body. I then took that feedback, and created the logo below, ensuring that the art styles matched to keep the logo concise. This logo was submitted in a secondary assignment to make the logo black and white.

LU ropes in rodeo team
Dirt kicks up around the arena, creating a dusty haze that only enhances the scene unfolding. The competitor and her horse easily clear the first barrel, making their way around the second and third before taking off towards the gate. The sound of the buzzer completes their run, and the crowd waits patiently for the next barrel racer to enter the arena. The Lamar University rodeo team will kick off their inaugural season Sept. 26 and 27 at Panola College in Tatum with compe
